The CatWalk XT® Gait Analysis Is Closely Correlated with Tissue Damage after Cervical Spinal Cord Injury in Rats

چکیده

Objective and consistent assessment of locomotion recovery remains challenging in rodent spinal cord injury (SCI). We, therefore, studied the validity relevance CatWalk XT® gait analysis as a tool for assessing functional outcome clinically relevant cervical SCI model rats. In total, 20 Wistar rats were randomly assigned to either C6 clip compression/contusion or sham laminectomy. Locomotion was assessed weekly using BBB open field score. Six weeks after SCI, percentage preserved tissue measured by glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining. Statistical analyses performed assess correlation with 30 different parameters. caused bilateral significant impairment all Similar BBB, spontaneous could be observed most parameters following weeks. Correlation between hindlimb good (53% r values > 0.6) while forelimb even stronger (83% 0.6). The is closely correlated damage contusion/compression can used an objective recovery.

Pretreatment with AQP4 and NKCC1 Inhibitors Concurrently Attenuated Spinal Cord Edema and Tissue Damage after Spinal Cord Injury in Rats

Spinal cord injury (SCI) affects more than 2.5 million people worldwide. Spinal cord edema plays critical roles in the pathological progression of SCI. This study aimed to delineate the roles of aquaporin 4 (AQP4) and Na+-K+-Cl- cotransporter 1 (NKCC1) in acute phase edema and tissue destruction after SCI and to explore whether inhibiting both AQP4 and NKCC1 could improve SCI-induced spinal ede...

The fate of neurons after traumatic spinal cord injury in rats: A systematic review

Objective(s): To reach an evidence-based knowledge in the context of the temporal-spatial pattern of neuronal death and find appropriate time of intervention in order to preserve spared neurons and promote regeneration after traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI). Materials and Methods: The study design was based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA)-guided...

Influence of Sexuality in Functional Recovery after Spinal Cord Injury in rats

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a major clinical condition and research is commonly done to find suitable treatment options. However, there are some degrees of spontaneous recovery after SCI and gender is said to be a contributing factor in recovery, but this is controversial. This study was done to compare the effects of sexual dimorphism on spontaneous recovery after spinal cord inj...

P 94: The Systemic Inflammation after Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury (SCI) actuate to complex cellular and molecular interactions within the central nervous system in a heave to repair the initial tissue damage. The pathophysiology of acute spinal cord injury (SCI) involves primary and secondary mechanisms. Neuroinflammation is an important secondary injury process in SCI. The local inflammatory microenvironment within the injured spinal cord ...

Chronic cervical spinal cord injury and autonomic hyperreflexia in rats.

Although it is well established that patients with cervical spinal cord injury are prone to acute, marked, hypertensive episodes, i.e., autonomic hyperreflexia, the specific mechanisms mediating this sometimes-fatal phenomenon are not completely understood. In this report, we describe the preparation and characterization of a rat model of chronic cervical spinal cord injury and autonomic hyperr...
